2018, 48” x 72” (152.4 x 121.92 cm), acrylic and metal patchwork on canvas
Gabriela Gil painted this piece between June and July of 2018. The idea of reconciling the extremes into harmony had been present in the series in several occasions. Through Siamese 18, she explored this by including six fish swimming towards each other, by using two contrasting color palettes, by removing the metal patchwork form some of the bodies for the first time, and by using metallic paint that would only be visible when light reflected off of it. It is a multi-layered piece, not only technically, but also in the different interpretations or narratives the viewer can get from it.
