2017, 48” x 72” (121.92 x 182.88 cm), acrylic and metal patchwork on canvas
This piece was completed after an influential trip to Spain on September 2016 where Gabriela Gil was reintroduced to the work of Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso, experienced a deeply moving flamenco dance in an underground cafe in Valencia, and spent some time in the Mediterranean coast. After this trip, she wanted to capture some of these experiences, emotions, and energy. This was the first piece where she painted the entire body of the fish, and started including more than one. It marked a major breakthrough in the series.
