Semuc Champey

2018, 36” x 36” (91.4 x 91.4 cm), acrylic on canvas

The piece is a nod of the head to Semuc Champey, a place in Guatemala which sits in the middle of a remote jungle, and which Gabriela Gil encountered during one of her family road trips across Central America. The shapes and color palette were inspired by the turquoise river that disappears into the mountain, and reappears on the other side.
