The Spanish title "Sin Hielo" translates to "Without Ice," which makes reference to the Spring season when the ice melts away in the city, and nature blooms all around. However, the title is also a play on words since "Hielo" is pronounced like "yellow," and in this piece Gabriela, who often uses yellow in her color palette, decidedly left it out. Working under the mentorship of the New York artist Jill Nathanson, she experimented with the idea of using and positioning colors in a way that they could "play the role" of yellow, even if they were blues, greens or reds.
