Flower Bed (Cama de Flores)

-

2020,  24.5" x 67" (62.23 x 170.18  cm), Acrylic and soft pastel on canvas

Gabriela Gil painted this piece during the first week of New York's lockdown due to COVID-19. She started it while testing out the Instagram Live feature for the first time, not knowing that this would be a feature used widely around the world over the upcoming weeks. The Spring season was approaching fast, the weather warming up, and the flowers were starting to bloom. There was uncertainty, there was rebirth, and there was optimism on her mind.
